Enrolment

As stipulated by the NSW Government, to enrol in an undergraduate Initial-Teacher-Education degree students must:

  • Achieve a minimum standard of three Band 5 HSC results, one of which must be in Standard, Advanced or Extension English (or equivalent for IB), OR;
  • Successfully pass eight discipline (non-ITE) courses (in their first year of full-time study), before being eligible to enrol in curriculum and pedagogy courses or undertake supervised professional experience.

Professional Experience

To be able to undertake Professional Experience all students must complete a Working with Children Check, Anaphylaxis e-training, Child Protection Awareness Training and sign the DoE Consent Form. Please visit our website for further details.

Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE)

All teacher education students in NSW are required to sit the national Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) and demonstrate the required minimum level of personal literacy and numeracy prior to enrolling in their final professional experience. The test is administered externally by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and students will be required to register with ACER. The current cost of the test is $196 and is at the student's expense.

Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment

All Teacher Education students must also successfully complete the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA) after completing the final professional experience in order to graduate from this program.

Non Academic Requirements for Teacher Education (NARTE) set by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and the NSW Education Standards Authority

Your responses in your AITSL Statement of Purpose were reviewed as part of your application. Development and assessment of this will continue throughout your degree. All Teacher Education students are expected to demonstrate the NESA Non Academic Requirements for Teacher Education (NARTE) which are: retain an electronic copy of this document for your records. You may wish to refer to this document throughout your studies.
