Indigenous Pathway to Medicine Application

This application form is for Indigenous applicants; you will be considered for admission to The University of Notre Dame's Doctor of Medicine program. Applicants must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and meet the following requirements:

  • Proof of Aboriginality
  • Completion of a minimum three-year full-time equivalent (FTE) undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 5.0 (Applicants with a GPA below 5.0 may be exceptionally considered; please reach out to discuss your situation)
  • Personal statement
  • Resume/CV
  • Successful Interview

Aboriginality

An Australia Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person is a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and is accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived.

A confirmation/Certificate of Aboriginality is a certificate or letter issued from an Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) on letterhead, signed by the LALC Chairperson or the Chief Executive Officer confirming the applicant’s acceptance as a LALC member; or a letter from an incorporated Aboriginal organisation where you live or your family is known stamped with their common seal as confirmation of Aboriginality.

All documentation must be in the name of the applicant. Proof of Aboriginality for a parent or other relative and statutory declarations will not be accepted. Applicants who require additional documentation may apply for the Doctor of Medicine while they simultaneously apply for their Proof of Aboriginality documentation. Successful applicants will need to provide their Proof of Aboriginality documentation no later than two weeks prior to the commencement of classes.

Education Background

As the Doctor of Medicine is a postgraduate degree, students must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree within the past ten years. Applicants who completed their undergraduate degree more than 10 years ago may be eligible if they have completed additional eligible study within the previous 10 years.

The Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) has been developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) in conjunction with the Consortium of Graduate Medical Schools to assist in the selection of students to graduate-entry medical programs at participating schools. GAMSAT is designed to assess a student’s capacity to undertake high level intellectual studies in a demanding course.
