Kimberley mentors and community champions recognised at Majarlin Awards

13 October 2026

Outstanding clinicians, community partners and organisations who are helping shape the future health workforce in the Kimberley have been honoured at the 2026 Majarlin Recognition Awards in Kununurra.

The student-nominated awards celebrate allied health and nursing professionals, community partners and organisations that go above and beyond to support, mentor and educate students during their placements across the region.

Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health Director, Associate Professor James Debenham, said the awards highlighted the important contribution of individuals and organisations developing the region's future health workforce.

“Every year individuals and organisations across the Kimberley contribute their time to support, mentor and educate students, ultimately shaping the future health workforce,” Associate Professor Debenham said.

“The Majarlin Recognition Awards acknowledge these outstanding contributions to student placement experiences and recognise the positive impact they have on students, communities and regional healthcare.”

Representatives from Shooting Stars, recipient of the Community Partnership Award (Organisation), said the recognition reflected the collective effort involved in supporting students and communities across regional and remote Australia.

“The award means a lot to us, this recognition is a team effort, built through working together and supporting one another,” the spokesperson said.

The Majarlin Recognition Awards are an annual opportunity to acknowledge the clinicians, organisations and community members whose support helps create positive placement experiences for students undertaking health training in the Kimberley. Through their mentorship and guidance, they play a critical role in building a sustainable rural and remote health workforce for the future.
