The University of Notre Dame Australia’s alumna Nina Kennedy from Perth WA has won a gold medal in the pole vault event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Clearing 4.90m at the first attempt, Nina’s win has made her the first Australian woman to win gold in a field event at the Olympics.
The Honourable Chris Ellison, Chancellor of the University of Notre Dame Australia, expressed his congratulations on behalf of the University on Nina’s historic achievement.
‘We were thrilled to witness Nina’s history-making achievement,” Chancellor Ellison said. “Our heartfelt congratulations go to Nina on winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games, as a remarkable testament to her dedication, perseverance and exceptional talent.”

27-year-old- Nina completed a Bachelor of Behavioral Science through Notre Dame’s Fremantle Campus in 2023.
Nina’s triumph in Paris marks a defining moment in her career and confirms her status as a leading figure in the world of pole vaulting. Her Olympic victory is an extraordinary moment that will be remembered by Australians for years to come.
