Notre Dame signs landmark partnership with the Fulbright Commission

The University of Notre Dame Australia has signed a landmark agreement with the Fulbright Commission, paving the way for United States-based researchers to further their work at Notre Dame’s three Australian campuses.

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is a prestigious international educational exchange initiative sponsored by the U.S. government. It provides scholarships for Australian scholars to study in the United States and for American scholars to undertake research and teaching opportunities in Australia across a wide range of disciplines. In Australia, the Fulbright Program is administered by the Australian-American Fulbright Commission.

Partnering with the Fulbright Commission strengthens Notre Dame’s international reputation and builds connections with leading institutions, particularly in the United States, while enhancing opportunities for academic collaboration. This agreement represents a significant milestone in the University’s commitment to international academic collaboration, formalised through the establishment of The Fulbright Notre Dame Australia Scholarship. This initiative will support high-achieving American scholars to engage in research and teaching at Notre Dame.

The partnership aligns with Notre Dame’s Strategic Objectives, underscoring the University’s dedication to academic excellence, fostering global relationships, and advancing initiatives that serve both the University and the broader community while supporting its mission to contribute to the common good.

Notre Dame’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Campbell, welcomed the opportunity to further the University’s commitment to universality through the Fulbright Program.

“As a university, we value a global outlook in our research and teaching and engage with the world to offer our students the best opportunities the world has to offer. “

It is a testament to the quality of Notre Dame’s scholarship and facilities that the Fulbright Commission will send world-class researchers to collaborate and thrive at our institution,” Professor Campbell said.

Notre Dame looks forward to welcoming two visiting researchers to its Fremantle, Broome, and Sydney campuses from August 2026.
