The University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA) congratulates the many current and former staff members recognised for their service to the community and their professions in the 2023 Australia Day Honours.
The University’s schools of Medicine and Education featured prominently this year, with the following current staff members appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM):
- Adjunct Senior Research Fellow Dr Therese Burke (NSW) for significant service to medicine, particularly to multiple sclerosis research, and to nursing;
- Associate Professor and Head of the Lithgow Clinical School, John Dearin, (NSW) for significant service to medicine and to community health in Lithgow;
- Adjunct Professor and Head of Clinical Pathology, Dr Annabelle Farnsworth, (NSW) for significant service to medicine, and to women’s health;
- Adjunct Professor Dr Robin Jana Kramar (NSW) for significant service to education in the field of human resource management;
Former staff members appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) include:
- Dr Kristen Bindley (NSW) for service to the community through palliative care initiatives;
- Ms Geraldine Francis Byrne (WA) for service to the community of WA, and to history;
- Ms Deborah Lee Wilcox (NSW) for significant service to health administration, and to the community.
The following current and former staff members were awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM):
- Ms Angela Ruth Chaplin (QLD) for service to the performing arts;
- Adjunct Associate Professor Dr Richard Gallagher (NSW) for service to medicine as a surgeon;
- Adjunct Professor and Former School of Law Dean, Mrs Mary McComish, (WA) for service to tertiary education, and to the community;
- Adjunct Associate Professor Dr Judith Wilks (NSW) for service to education.
