The University of Notre Dame Australia congratulates Professor Isabell Naumann ISSM on her reappointment to the International Theological Commission, one of the Catholic Church’s most significant theological advisory bodies.

Appointed by Pope Leo XIV for a further five-year term, Professor Naumann is among a select group of theologians from around the world chosen to advise the Holy See on important theological questions facing the Church.

The reappointment recognises her outstanding scholarly contribution and the esteem in which her work is held internationally.

Professor Naumann has served on the Commission since 2021 and is currently Special Advisor to the Vice Chancellor at Notre Dame.

A Distinguished Professor of Theology at the University and former President of the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology at the Catholic Institute of Sydney, she has taught and lectured across Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.

Throughout her distinguished career, Professor Naumann has contributed extensively to theological scholarship and served on numerous national and international academic and Church bodies, including two terms on the Pontifical Council for Culture.

The International Theological Commission helps the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith by examining doctrinal questions of major importance and contributing to theological reflection on issues facing the universal Church.
