  • Biography

    Jim Codde has an extensive career in health research. Until recently, he served as the Director of the Institute for Health Research at The University of Notre Dame but has research career that spans four decades and several disciplines. After completing his PhD, his postgraduate studies involved experimental and clinical research in the fields of cardiovascular medicine and cancer treatments. Up on joining the WA Health, his interests expanded into public health and health service research, reflecting his roles as Director of the Epidemiology Branch and Director Clinical Planning in the South Metropolitan Health Service. He has served many roles that include as adjunct Professor at UWA through the Division of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Director of the Board for Fremantle Medicare Local/ GP Division (2006 – 2016) and the National Science Director for the Health Program for the CRC – Spatial Information in 2017-2018.

    In the past 5-years, he has received over $5.6 million in research funding from peer-review/Investigator-initiated grants and contracts with a lifetime total value of grants worth over $12.5m. He has over 110 publications to his name having published in journals like The Lancet, BMJ, Stroke, J Aging Physical Activity and Brit J Obstet & Gynae, with over 25 publications in the last 5 years. His diverse research interests are evident in his publications, showcasing his broad collaborative network and ability to provide valuable insights for translating research into clinical settings and policy development.

  • Research Expertise and Supervision

    Professor Codde has become increasing involved in studies focused on improving clinical management and health service delivery across the care continuum. Through strong collaborative partnerships, much of this research utilises complex analyse of linked data systems with the view to translate the findings into practice by building knowledge, challenging long standing clinical practices and informing policy development.

    Jim currently supervises a PhD and three Master students and has successfully supervised a Doctor of Medical Science, six PhD and nine Masters-level students to completion.
