Biography
Osvaldo completed his medical training at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and his postgraduate training at the University of London, UK. He is a psychiatrist with clinical and research expertise in the mental health conditions of older age. Osvaldo has been working in Australia since 1998, and during this time has been involved in research supported by over $40M in grants (primarily NHMRC/MRFF), and has supervised numerous postgraduate students. His research activities have generated over 400 peer-reviewed publications (over 38,000 citations by May 2024). His areas of research interest include depression and bipolar disorder in older age, healthy ageing, cognitive impairment and dementia, and clinical pharmacology. Osvaldo took up the position of Director of the Institute for Health Research at the University of Notre Dame Australia in May 2024.

Research Expertise and Supervision
Osvaldo has expertise in epidemiology, including the design and analysis of observational studies and clinical trials, and systematic reviews. He also has experience with the development and investigation of the psychometric properties of scales, as well as in the use of structured and semi-structured interviews. He has substantial experience supervising scholarly activities and research projects at Masters and PhD level.
