Biography
Katrina originally trained as a molecular biologist, completing postdoctoral training in a French immunology laboratory, and then worked on developing gene therapy to treat eye disease. She switched focus to public health and completed a Masters of Biostatistics in 2008. She has over 23 years’ experience using population-level linked data to investigate the epidemiology and patient health outcomes of a diverse range of health conditions. Katrina was part of the first ever Australian study that involved cross-jurisdictional linkage of hospital and death records across four states. She has extensive experience in longitudinal and time to event analysis of large cross-jurisdictional data sets including PBS and Medicare data linked to state-based data collections.

Research expertise and supervision
She is currently collaborating with clinical and academic teams based at the University of Queensland and University of Western Australia as an investigator on several NHMRC funded projects involving data linked across jurisdictions and a clinical trial. Katrina has also collaborated with clinicians from a wide range of medical disciplines ranging from otorhinolaryngology, oncology, urology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, general practice, gynaecology, burns, neurology and gastroenterology to investigate health outcomes. As a biostatistician with linked data analysis experience, she has mentored numerous students and staff in a less formal role over the years and formally supervised honours, masters and PhD students.
