  • Biography

    Professor Svetlana Cherepanoff is a distinguished anatomical pathologist with expertise in ophthalmic and molecular pathology. She established and leads the Eye Pathology Service at St Vincent's Hospital Sydney and chairs the NSW Ocular Oncology Multidisciplinary Team meeting, fostering collaborative care for this group of rare cancers. As the inaugural Shirley & John Sarks Professor, she leads the digitisation of the Sarks Archive, a pioneering biobanking initiative advancing research into age-related macular degeneration. As principal investigator on a number of research protocols, she is at the forefront of translational research in her field. Her contributions to ophthalmic pathology are internationally recognised. She is a chapter co-author of the 4th and 5th editions of the WHO Classification of Eye Tumours. She has provided pathology education for Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) trainees for over a decade and has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of RANZCO in recognition of her outstanding contributions to ophthalmology. Through her leadership and expertise, Professor Cherepanoff continues to shape the future of ophthalmic pathology, integrating clinical excellence, research innovation, and education.
