• Biography

  British born, Fiona completed her MBBS at St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in London before moving to Australia in 1987. She became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery) in 1990. Among her many achievements, Fiona is well known for her care to burns patients following the Bali bombings in 2002 and subsequently being becoming a Member of the Order of Australia. She was Australian of Year in 2005.
  
  Currently, Professor Wood is a consultant plastic surgeon at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, and Director of the Burns Service for Western Australia. From early in her career, Fiona has been passionate about improving the outcomes for burns survivors believing more could be done to facilitate scarless healing, physically, mentally and spiritually. To this end, her research team developed spray-on skin technologies that continue to be developed and used around the world. Her own areas of research interests include paediatric and adult burn trauma, wound management, mechanistic studies of laser therapy for scar management, device technology, ICU, genomics, proteomics and metabolomics and include well over 200 publications.
  
  Through her personal commitment to burns education and research, and that of her charitable research foundation, Fiona is actively involved in the postgraduate Masters of Burn and Trauma Rehabilitation (M.BTR) and HDR supervision at Notre Dame.
