  • Biography

    Gerard joined Notre Dame in 2009 and is Associate Dean Research in the School of Health Sciences. Gerard completed his BSc and PhD at The University of Western Australia before taking up post-doctoral positions at Imperial College in London and the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. His research investigated how the immune system regulates immune responses to self and foreign proteins. This has important implications in the development of autoimmune diseases such as allergy and diabetes.

    He has gained research funding both in Australia and overseas over the last 20 years. He has co-authored over 50 scientific manuscripts and has presented his work at national and international scientific conferences. He was a co-founding scientist of a biotechnology company that was established in Cambridge in the UK and is a named inventor on eight international patents that have been granted.

    Gerard is a member of the Australian Society for Immunology, the Institute of Health Research Advisory Board (UNDA), Chair of The Systems & Intervention Research Centre for Health (SIRCH) Advisory Board at ECU and has been appointed as an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the Institute for Respiratory Health and is an Adjunct Professor at Edith Cowan University.
