  • Biography

Portia graduated with a Bachelors in Physiotherapy from Notre Dame in 2009 and subsequently completed a post-graduate diploma in neurological rehabilitation at UWA. For the past 6 years, Portia has been working as a full time physiotherapist at Rocky Bay Inc, an organization which provides services for people with disability.

Portia is enrolled in the Doctor of Philosophy in 2015 to study falls in older adults with intellectual disability living in the community. Knowledge on falls in people with intellectual disability is rather sparse so the extend of the problem has yet to be determined. Portia is actively recruiting participants at the moment and asking them to diarize the number of falls they experience. Portia also plans to conduct interview to understand the experience people with intellectual disability and their caregivers have when they access health services relating to falls. Results of the study can be used to inform falls prevention services that are suitable for older adults with intellectual disability.
