  • Biography

Professor Lisa Wood is a tireless advocate for research being relevant and useful to the real world, and the need for academia to go beyond “the ivory tower” to make a difference. She is passionate in both her professional and personal commitment to preventing and reducing health disparities, particularly among some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

Lisa moved to UNDA in February 2022 and leads an expansive program of collaborative homelessness research, strongly anchored around priorities identified by services working at the coalface of homelessness and people with a lived experience. Other areas of current research include family and domestic violence prevention, tobacco control, and closing the gap in Aboriginal wellbeing.

Lisa’s academic career is complemented by extensive experience in the fields of public health and health promotion, across government and non-government settings and a range of health issues. She is active in the public health arena within WA and nationally, not only through research and service roles but also through her proactive mentoring of the next generation of public health advocates and researchers.

In addition to more traditional research grant funding, Lisa has been proactive in attracting government and non-government and philanthropic funding for evaluation/intervention research undertaken in real world settings.

In addition to her position with IHR, Lisa holds an adjunct role with the School of Human Sciences at The University of Western Australia (UWA).
