For content creator Louis, studying Communications & Media in the heart of Fremantle – a melting pot of art, culture and creativity – means inspiration is never far away.

“Notre Dame’s town campus means you never have to walk very far when in need of inspiration or ideas for your next story,” Louis says.

The film and journalism major says Notre Dame’s practical approach, with an internship as part of the degree, means he has developed a broad range of skills and put them into practice.

With Notre Dame’s focus on developing critical thinking skills through the Core Curriculum – units in Philosophy, Theology and Ethics – Journalism students develop the ability to discern truth from fake news and to report ethically.

Your lecturers mentor your creativity as well as encourage you to think critically to stay relevant in the ever-changing media industry.

“Communications & Media classes are hands on,” Louis says. “You spend a lot of time applying what you are taught – whether that be making short films or documentaries, or writing stories.”

“The smaller class sizes mean you get more direct contact with your lecturers and one-to-one support,” he says.
