As an older brother to his three siblings, Bachelor of Education graduate Mitchell says he has always been a people person.

I enjoy being a part of the student development process and it’s so rewarding when you see a child smile when something has clicked for them.

Throughout his time at Notre Dame, Mitchell has also gained an awareness of the need for teachers with experience in working with Indigenous students.

“Teachers really need to have experience working in this area considering the high percentage of Indigenous children we have in WA schools compared with over east.”

“In one of my prac placements I was responsible for working with one Indigenous boy who had lost motivation to attend school after his older brothers had left for high school. We tried different reward systems like letting him play basketball or choose a footy card when he’d done his work…it can be really difficult and it requires a lot of patience,” he said.
