Password and account management

To assist in creating strong and unique passwords or passphrases, you will need to meet the following requirements.

  • Must contain:
    • A minimum of 12 characters
  • Should not contain:
    • Re-use previous passwords
    • Contain personal details, e.g., names, important dates, addresses, phone numbers or family information
    • Repetitive/sequential letters and numbers, e.g., '123', 'ABC', '000'
    • Easily identifiable words, e.g. 'Australia', 'Notre Dame', or 'Peoplesoft'

If you are wondering whether to use a password or a passphrase, Notre Dame recommends using a passphrase. Visit Okta's password vs passphrase for more information.

  • Unlock your account

    Steps to unlock your Notre Dame account

    1. Open a web browser on your laptop, desktop or smart device and go to Notre Dame login page.
    2. Select the 'Unlock Account' option.
    3. Enter your Notre Dame email address and choose one of the security methods you've previously set up to verify your identity (e.g., Phone or Okta Verify).
      • If you select the 'Phone' option, you'll receive a text message with a 6-digit verification code. Note: If the verification code is not received, it may be due to phone number unavailability or an outdated phone number linked to your Notre Dame account. Ensure the phone number is updated for account recovery self-service.
      • If you select the 'Get a Push Notification' option, a notification will be sent to your phone or tablet where the Okta Verify app is installed and your account is already set up.
    4. Enter the verification code you received on your phone and select 'Verify' to authenticate your identity and unlock the account.
    5. For security reasons, you’ll be prompted to authenticate again.

    Your account has been successfully unlocked! You can now sign in to your Notre Dame account.

  • Reset Forgotten Password

    Steps to Reset an Notre Dame account password

    1. Open a web browser on your laptop, desktop or smart device and go to Notre Dame login page.
    2. Enter your Notre Dame email address (studentnumber@my.nd.edu.au) and select 'Next'.
    3. Choose one of the security methods you've already set up on your account to verify your identity (e.g., Phone or Okta Verify).
      • If you select the 'Phone' option, you'll receive a text message with a 6-digit verification code. Note: If the verification code is not received, it may be due to phone number unavailability or an outdated phone number linked to the account. Ensure the phone number is updated for account recovery self-service.
      • If you choose the 'Get a Push Notification' option, a notification will be sent to your phone or tablet where the Okta Verify app is installed and your account is already set up.
    4. Select the 'Forgot Password' option.
    5. You’ll then be asked to enter and confirm your new password. After that, select 'Reset Password' to complete the process.

    Password has been successfully reset! You can now sign in to your Notre Dame account using your new password.

  • Change Your Current Password

    If you know your existing password. You can change it by following the below steps:

    1. Login to the account settings page using your email address and password
    2. Under 'Change Password', enter your current and new passwords.
      Optional: Select the box to sign out of all other devices that access your Notre Dame account and applications, such as MS Teams and Office 365
    3. Select 'Change Password'
    4. You may be required to re-authenticate using Okta Verify on your phone. Once you have successfully authenticated, you will be returned to the login screen
  • Register Your Mobile Number

    Before adding a phone number, ensure the Notre Dame account is enrolled in at least one security method (e.g., Okta Verify) and that sign-in access to the Notre Dame account is successful.

    Steps to add a phone number

    1. Sign in to the Notre Dame account, navigate to Account Settings - Security Methods.
    2. Select 'Phone Setup'.
    3. Verify identity using an existing security method already set up on the account, then continue with the phone setup.
    4. Select the country from the dropdown list and accurately enter the phone number.
    5. Choose 'Receive a code via SMS' to receive a verification code by text message.
    6. Enter the verification code in the provided field and select 'Verify' to complete the phone setup.

    Your phone number is now successfully added to your account. This can help with account recovery processes, such as resetting your Notre Dame password or unlocking your Notre Dame account after incorrect password attempts.
