Notre Dame Education Lecture Series
The Faculty of Education and Philosophy & Theology welcomed Tom Bennett OBE to Australia to deliver a series of public lectures in Fremantle, Sydney and Melbourne.
The lectures were introduced by Professor David de Carvalho, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education and Philosophy & Theology at The University of Notre Dame Australia. The trio of lectures aims to encourage discussion of this vitally important topic among teachers, school leaders, parents, and the broader community.
Tom Bennett OBE is the founder and director of researchED, a non-profit organisation that runs teacher conferences about research and education. He is the author of several books on teacher training, the most successful of which is Running the Room: the teacher's guide to behaviour. In 2015 he was appointed the UK government's advisor on school behaviour, or ‘behaviour tsar,’ and is in charge of the Behaviour Hubs program.
About the Lectures
Effective behaviour management in the school classroom is crucial to learning. It has been the subject of a recent parliamentary report and last year, all education ministers in Australia mandated its inclusion in University Initial Teacher Education degrees. Tom Bennett OBE is the UK Education Department’s independent behaviour advisor. In sponsoring this series of three lectures, The University of Notre Dame Australia aims to encourage discussion of this vitally important topics below among teachers, school leaders, parents, and the broader community.
