The Michael J M Wright Library is a vibrant, contemporary space designed to foster collaboration, curiosity and community. Students, scholars and staff from across disciplines come together to think deeply, work creatively and grow collectively. It’s a place where ideas are exchanged, friendships are formed and futures are shaped.

Thanks to the generous support of the Wright family, the library carries the name of Michael J M Wright as a tribute to his legacy of leadership, generosity and commitment to education.  It stands as a tribute to a man whose values continue to inspire the University and the broader Western Australian community.

World class facilities dedicated to learning and discovery

The Michael J M Wright Library is a modern hub for learning and research located within the repurposed ND17 warehouse in the Bateman Courtyard. Designed to be a vibrant and contemporary space that supports both individual and collaborative study, featuring state-of-the-art facilities and extensive digital resources.

The ground floor houses physical collections, which include invaluable course reserves, as well as health, law, and primary print collections. Core texts can be borrowed from the High Demand Collection, while additional print materials are available upon request.

A dedicated Student Hub offers information, research support and IT assistance to help students navigate resources and support services for a world-class study experience.

A variety of spaces tailored for both individual and group study, a seminar room and two bookable media rooms, group study rooms, a silent reading room for uninterrupted study and quiet individual study spaces to cater for individual needs. Both floors are equipped with open-access PCs, powered study tables, Wi-FI and comfortable casual seating.

The University of Notre Dame Australia proudly recognises Michael J M Wright–a respected Western Australian businessman, philanthropist and former Governor of the University. His life was marked by generosity, integrity and a steadfast commitment to building a better future for others.

In recognition of the Wright family’s significant philanthropic gift, the new state-of-the-art library on our Fremantle campus has been named in honour of Michael J M Wright.

This honour reflects not only Mr Wright’s enduring impact on the University, but also his belief in the value of education.

A champion of education

As a member of the University’s Board of Governors from 1996 to 2006, Michael Wright played a vital role in guiding Notre Dame through its formative years. He believed deeply in the transformative power of education and his support helped the University grow into a national institution known for academic excellence and pastoral care.

A lifelong learner and avid reader, Mr Wright understood the importance of libraries as places of reflection, discovery and connection. Naming the library in his honour is a fitting tribute to his love of learning and his commitment to future generations.

A living legacy

The Michael J M Wright Library will continue to be a place where students gather to think and study, explore ideas, and build community. It will inspire future leaders and support the University’s mission to form individuals who are dedicated to the common good.
