WELCOME FROM PROFESSOR CATE THILL
On behalf of all staff, I would like to welcome you to the School of Arts and Sciences. I respect and acknowledge the Yawuru people of the Yawuru Nation, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and the Cadigal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we work and study. Studying with us is an opportunity to forge a career you are passionate about, which enables you to make a difference in the world. We are living in an era of accelerated change and uncertainty. Climate, technological and social changes are reshaping and disrupting what we thought we knew about ourselves, our futures and our place in the world. These complex challenges are creating practical, ethical and social justice dilemmas that our students are well placed to respond to.
Across our liberal arts style programs, you develop deep knowledge in at least one area of study. This enables you to interpret and explain data, generate new insights on the strength of critical and creative thinking, and make recommendations for policy or practice. Studying courses from a range of other disciplines also equips you with the capacity to take different perspectives into account, work collaboratively to solve problems and make evidence-based decisions – even in the face of uncertainty. Our flagship Aboriginal Studies and Experience the World programs foster cultural competence and a global mindset.
In the School of Arts & Sciences, you will be supported and mentored every step of the way by people who know your name and care about your professional and personal growth. Our staff are leaders in their fields. They will assist you to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to embark on your chosen career.
