School of Education, Fremantle Campus
With all degrees fully accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia, Notre Dame’s School of Education offers a complete spectrum of higher education programs, with an extensive range of majors and specialisations. Your studies will qualify you to teach across all sectors of education including Catholic, Government and Independent schools.
We offer a strong work-integrated learning component with 32 weeks of practical teaching experience – significantly more than other Australian universities – which provides valuable experience in the classroom, plus the chance for students to form close relationships with schools.
Work Integrated Learning
Students enrolling at the School of Education benefit from Notre Dame’s commitment to practical teaching experience. All practicums are supported with expert experienced university supervisors who regularly visit students during the course of the school experience. These supervisors work closely with mentor teachers and School practicum coordinators to ensure student teachers get the highest level of guidance. In addition to the 32 weeks of practicum, a number of theoretical courses also require students to spend time in classrooms to put theory into practice.
Notre Dame’s Mentor Program aims to smooth the transition from school (or work) to university life by linking first year students with student mentors. In addition, the University’s Academic Enabling & Support Centre (AESC) helps students formulate their goals and develop the skills and confidence needed to attain them. The AESC offers a range of courses and programs, plus support for students with special educational requirements.
The School of Education is located on the Notre Dame campus in the heart of Fremantle. Students have access to St Teresa’s Library which holds a large collection of books and audio visual resources, plus study rooms, open access PCs, study tables and colour printers.
