Reduced Study Load for International Student
International students on a student visa must maintain a full-time study load to ensure you complete your program within the duration specified in your CoE. At The University of Notre Dame Australia, full-time study equates to 1.0 EFTSL per year, which is usually 200 units of credits over two consecutive study periods within an academic year. Formal permission must be granted to reduce study load below 100 units of credits for one study period. If you enrol in less than 100 credit points in a study period without formal approval, you may not be able to extend your student visa to complete your course.
Students should submit this application at least 14 calendar days prior to the commencement of the relevant study period to avoid incurring any academic and/or financial penalties. However, the final deadline to apply is the census date of the session in which you are intending to reduce your study load. Applications submitted after the census date will not be accepted.
Permission to reduce study load will only be granted for students who:
- who are experiencing compassionate or compelling circumstances beyond their control, which are affecting their ability to maintain full time study
- who are experiencing academic difficulty affecting their course progression
- who are experiencing course enrolment restrictions beyond their control, impeding their ability to enrol into a full-time study load
- who have less than 100% study load remaining in their course during their final year of study
International students should refer to The University of Notre Dame Australia General Regulations, International Students Policy and Intervention Strategy procedure before completing the form.
You MUST remain enrolled with a full-time study load until your application is approved.
These requirements are placed on you by:
- Visa Condition 8202, which is attached to all student visas; and
- The ESOS Framework, a set of laws which governs how the University manages your enrolment and which determine many of your rights and responsibilities as an international student.
