The University of Notre Dame Australia is proud to announce it has been awarded 10 additional Commonwealth supported places (CSPs) for its Doctor of Medicine program, as part of the Australian Government’s initiative to grow the nation’s medical workforce by offering 100 additional university places for future Australian doctors.
Notre Dame was the only university in Western Australia to receive additional CSPs under this program, reflecting our recognised leadership in medical education and our strong contribution to Australia’s healthcare system.
These additional CSPs will enable Notre Dame strengthening our capacity to train more doctors committed to primary care and rural health.
This announcement follows recent news from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), which ranked Notre Dame among the top two universities nationwide for producing general practitioners (GPs). More than 50% of graduates from our Fremantle Campus choose careers in general practice and rural generalism, placing Notre Dame among the most impactful contributors to Australia’s future primary healthcare workforce.
Notre Dame’s School of Medicine is deeply committed to community-based and values-driven medical education, attracting students passionate about serving local and rural communities where the need for accessible healthcare is greatest.
This commitment was further demonstrated with the recent launch of our Broome-based Doctor of Medicine program at the Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training, offering students the opportunity to study medicine in one of Australia’s most remote regions.
Professor Rebecca Anglin, Dean of Medicine at the University of Notre Dame Australia shared her response to the positive news, "These additional Commonwealth supported places are a significant investment in the future of health care in Australia. At Notre Dame, we are dedicated to training doctors who not only excel clinically but also share a deep commitment to serving communities where healthcare access is most needed. This expansion will allow us to continue shaping graduates who make a real difference."
The additional CSPs will allow Notre Dame to continue its mission of improving just and equitable access to quality healthcare for all communities.
