Graduate Certificate in Religious Education (WA)

Are you a qualified teacher who would like to teach religion in WA’s Catholic school system? If so, the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education at The University of Notre Dame Australia has been specifically created to meet your needs. This degree, approved by Western Australian Catholic Schools, consists of two compulsory courses and two electives and can be completed in six months of full-time study. Upon the successful completion of this program you can apply for a Master of Education (Religious Education).

• Program summary

  Two (2) compulsory courses:

  • One (1) Religious Education course
  • One (1) Theology course

  Two (2) other courses (Any combination of the following can be used):

  • Two (2) courses in Religious Education or
  • Two (2) courses in Theology or
  • One (1) course in Religious Education and One (1) course in Theology

  You may commence your studies during Winter Term (June), in Semester 2 (July) or October Intensive, subject to course availability.

  To be eligible for admission applicants must be eligible for teacher registration in Australia.

• Learning outcomes

  Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education graduates will be able to:

  1. Critically apply and reflect on advanced knowledge and understandings of specialised educational and theological theory and practices within the domain of religious education
  2. Critically evaluate issues in RE curriculum, leadership and pedagogy, pastoral care, spirituality, and values development underlying the understanding of significant recent developments in Catholic education
  3. Use cognitive, technical, and creative skills with initiative and a high level of personal autonomy and accountability to generate understanding of complex issues in religious education; and
  4. Use communication and technical skills to implement, justify and interpret critical issues in religious education, pastoral care, spirituality, and values education presented within Catholic educational contexts.

• Career opportunities

  A Graduate Certificate in Religious Education will give you the skills and knowledge to teach Religious Studies in Catholic primary and high schools.

• Real-world experience

  You will learn from our academics, who are leaders in their field. There are no practicum requirements for this program.

  A domestic fee-paying place is a place at university where the student is responsible for the full cost the program.

  Eligible domestic fee-paying students may apply for the FEE-HELP loan scheme which assists eligible fee-paying students with the payment of all, or part, of their tuition fees, not including additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks.
