    Suppose you are an experienced teacher with practical experience and a desire to further your education career into a senior management role. In that case, this Master’s degree is the perfect course for you. The Master of Education (Leadership and Management) is designed to meet the needs of professional teachers like you who wish to undertake further career development.

    Our flexible study options will ensure that you can accommodate your existing teaching load. Tuition will be available face-to-face and externally, either full-time or part-time. Face-to-face sessions are scheduled during school holidays or Saturdays.

    The course includes one compulsory theology course and an elective to be chosen from Religious Education, Leadership and Management, Early Childhood Education, Special Learning Needs, and Curriculum. Topics include strategic management, curriculum planning and pastoral care.

  • Entry requirements

    To be eligible for admission to the Master of Education (Leadership and Management) applicants must also meet the following specific requirements:

    • Be eligible for teacher registration in Australia; and either
    • Successfully complete the University of Notre Dame Australia Graduate Certificate of Education (Leadership and Management) or equivalent; or
    • Have at least two years of full-time professional experience in either a primary or secondary school setting.
  • Learning outcomes

    Upon successful completion of the Master of Education (Leadership and Management) graduates will be able to:

    1. Critically apply and reflect on advanced knowledge of specialised educational theory and practices that includes the understanding of recent developments in educational leadership and management
    2. Demonstrate highly developed cognitive, technical, and creative skills with initiative, a high level of personal autonomy and accountability to generate understanding of complex educational issues in educational leadership and management
    3. Evaluate and apply knowledge of research principles and methods to educational leadership and management within school contexts
    4. Demonstrate highly developed communication and technical skills to implement, justify and interpret leadership and management models and practices, decision-making, industrial relations, the law, organisational culture, reflective practice, and responses to critical issues within educational contexts; and
    5. Plan, execute and reflect critically on a substantial research-based project and/or piece of scholarship on critical issues in educational management practices within school settings.
  • Career opportunities

    With a Master of Education (Leadership and Management), your career options include working in Australia as a Primary or Secondary School teacher in Catholic, Independent and Government schools, depending on your teaching qualification. Other career opportunities within the education system include Lead teacher, faculty or year group coordinator, principal and assistant principal. In addition, you can consider leadership roles in other education or non-education settings with a Leadership and Management specialisation.

  • Real-world experience

    You will learn from our academics, who are leaders in their field. There are no practicum requirements for this program.
