Gain a postgraduate qualification to provide you with the knowledge and skills to support a career in clinical leadership.​The University of Notre Dame Australia’s online, flexible Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership (Aspiring Leaders) will give you the skills to excel in various leadership and management settings.

  • Why study this degree?

    The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership (Aspiring Leaders) program is focused on advancing the leadership and management skills of participants aspiring to clinical leadership positions. The program is suitable for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. The courses of study will inform leadership and management strategies, quality processes, professional development and/or emotional intelligence. This program will equip participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills to prepare participants to progress in their careers within the clinical management settings.

    After successfully completing the program, if you want to further upgrade your qualifications you can enrol in a Graduate Diploma of Nursing followed by a Master of Nursing (Leadership and Management). You are welcome to apply if you are a Registered Nurse with a nursing degree or, have appropriate experience in a relevant area of discipline.

  • Entry requirements

    Academic requirements for this program are outlined on our admission requirements page. All applicants need to satisfy minimum requirements, including those relating to age and English Language Proficiency.

    The program will be available to students who have a previous Nursing degree or equivalent; or; who have a previous allied health degree or professional equivalence.

  • Learning outcomes

    Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership (Aspiring Leaders), graduates will be able to:

    1. Integrate knowledge of leadership styles, team dynamics and work-life balance to build capability and responsiveness in the healthcare team
    2. Cultivate productive working relationships by guiding, mentoring, and developing staff
    3. Communicate with influence and negotiate persuasively by listening, understanding, and adapting to the audience
    4. Make decisions, manage conflict, and collaborate effectively as a frontline nurse leader
    5. Critically appraise theories of change management and continuous improvement to build organisational capability and responsiveness in the delivery of high-quality healthcare
    6. Critique theories of power and their application to healthcare settings
    7. Research the impact of health policy on healthcare outcomes in the national and international arena; and
    8. Reflect on practice to facilitate awareness and knowledge of one’s own cognition in order to apply and build professional expertise establishing a mechanism for lifelong learning.
  • Career opportunities

    The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership will allow qualified nurses to become clinical leaders in their chosen fields. Careers include nurse educators, nurse managers, nurse practitioners, researchers, or research managers.

  • Real-world experience

    You will learn from our academics, who are leaders in their field. There are no practicum requirements for this program.

    A domestic fee-paying place is a place at university where the student is responsible for the full cost the program.

    Eligible domestic fee-paying students may apply for the FEE-HELP loan scheme which assists eligible fee-paying students with the payment of all, or part, of their tuition fees, not including additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks. Your FEE-HELP debt will be indexed each year in line with the Consumer Price Index.
