Our degree is internationally recognised, allowing you to practice in your home country upon graduation.*

Entry requirements for international applicants

  • Undergraduate entry to our Biomedical Science Assured Pathway program

    High performing secondary school students can apply for entry to the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Assured Pathway) on our Sydney Campus or Fremantle Campus at the same time. Successful applicants will secure a place in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) upon completion of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science.

    International admission requirements for the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Assured Pathway) include:

    • Meeting of the minimum academic entry requirements of 92 ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) or equivalent (see table)
    • Meeting of minimum English proficiency requirements
    • Successful completion of University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT ANZ) or International Student Admissions Test (ISAT) which will be ranked to determine interview
    • Students in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Assured Pathway) must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 each semester during the completion of their degree.

    To be eligible for the Assured Pathway, applicants must not have commenced tertiary studies, including a university degree or vocational training at diploma level. Applicants who have already commenced tertiary studies may apply for Graduate Entry into the Doctor of Medicine, during or after completion of their bachelor’s degree.

    International school leaver applicants wishing to apply for the Assured Pathway to the MD via undergraduate Biomedical Science require a minimum ATAR of 92 (or equivalent). Applicants who have completed studies other than ATAR will have their final results converted as per the table below.

  • Graduate entry to our Doctor of Medicine (MD)

    Each year, a number of places are available for international students in Notre Dame University’s Doctor of Medicine on both our Perth and Sydney Campuses. International applicants will be selected for admission based on the following criteria:

    • A Bachelor’s degree that has been recognised as equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s degree, AQF Level 7 and which has been taught and assessed in English within the last 10 years, or to be in the final year of an eligible Bachelor’s degree.
    • An overall weighted Grade Point Average of 5.2 or higher on a 7 point scale, calculated from the applicant’s most recent three years of undergraduate study.
    • Unweighted GAMSAT Score of at least 50 (in all sections and overall) or overall MCAT score of at least 500.
    • The School of Medicine uses a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) format, these interviews will be conducted online. For the online version of the MMI, you will be asked several separate interview questions. The interview will be recorded with the use of an online interviewing software tool, Modern Hire.

The Assured Pathway

The Assured Pathway into Doctor of Medicine is a 7-8 year medicine program that combines an undergraduate degree with our Medicine program. Admission is available for top-performing high school leavers, guaranteeing students a place in the Doctor of Medicine degree upon completion of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science, if a minimum GPA of 2.5 is maintained each semester throughout the degree.

Although the program does not offer a double degree option, Biomedical Science ensures students are equipped with the necessary foundation of skills and knowledge, becoming better prepared for their studies in Medicine.

Clinical skills

The Doctor of Medicine places a strong emphasis on practical training and experiential learning. Throughout the four years of your study, you will undertake clinical placements in a variety of settings, including aged care facilities, public and private hospitals, and general practice.

Your third and fourth years are clinically based and present the opportunity to explore the different disciplines of medicine. You will complete discipline-based rotations in a clinical setting, and further develop your research skills with a translation research project and/or clinical audit based in the hospital sector.

There are opportunities to expand on clinical skills in rural/remote areas and overseas. Rural/remote training opportunities including, for some students, a Rural Clinical School placement in one or two of the clinical years. There may be international opportunities students to complete their Year 3 or Year 4 elective placement at any approved location worldwide.

  • How do I apply?

    International applicants can apply directly to the University.

    Application process:

    1. Submit your application
      You can apply directly to The University of Notre Dame Australia. Alternatively, you can apply via one of the University’s authorised education agents in your country.
    2. Receive an offer
      Offers are made on a rolling basis. You will be notified of an offer via email along with your first semester invoice and other important information on accepting your offer, and moving to Australia.
    3. Accept your offer
      If you receive an offer from the University, you can choose to accept, defer or reject the offer. You do this by completing the ‘Conditions of Offer & Acceptance Form’ provided in the offer email accompanied by your invoice payment. Please call or email the International Office on +61 8 9433 0873 or international@nd.edu.au if you have any questions regarding your offer.
    4. Enrol
      Once the International Office has received your indicative invoice payment, you will receive an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) which you will use to apply for your student visa (if applicable). The International Office will then get in touch with you to organise your enrolment, including preparing your move to Australia.
    5. Orientation
      Orientation Week is a fun, festival-like event and is an opportunity to meet fellow students and get involved in student life at the University. Orientation Week is compulsory for international students studying on campus in Australia, as it provides you with important information which will help set you up for success during your studies at the University.

  • What are the fees involved?

    The Doctor of Medicine, Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Advanced Biomedical Science (Honours) are all offered to international students on a full-fee paying basis. Please see International student fees for information about fees involved.

  • Am I eligible for a scholarship?

    Undergraduate

    If you are studying an undergraduate degree eg. Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Advanced Biomedical Science (Honours), Notre Dame offers up to 25% fee reduction for the full duration of most undergraduate degrees with the International Welcome Scholarship.

    Postgraduate

    If you are from Lebanon studying Doctor of Medicine you may be eligible for the Dr Aniss Chami Scholarship.

  • Are international students eligible for an Early Offer or Priority Pathway?

    International students can be considered for a Priority pathway. Students looking for this pathway are encouraged to contact the University.

    Early Offers are not available to international students.

  • What subjects should I take in high school if I want to apply for entry to the Assured Pathway to Medicine?

    There are no subject prerequisites for admission to the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Assured Pathway) into the Doctor of Medicine. However, students should consider taking subjects in Science and Mathematics.

  • Which undergraduate degrees are eligible for the Assured Pathway? Can students do a double degree program?

    International students in the Assured Pathway program will commence a three-year Bachelor of Biomedical Science or a four-year Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) degree followed by a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.

    Although the Assured Pathway program does not offer a double undergraduate degree option, the undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science ensures students are equipped with the necessary foundation of skills and knowledge, becoming better prepared for their studies in the Doctor of Medicine.

During and after study

  • Can I practise in my home country after graduating?

    Upon graduation, you may wish to return to your home country to undertake local internships and fulfil licensing and accreditation processes and requirements. It is recommended that graduates of the University’s MD degree check the requirements in their home country to ensure professional accreditation circumstances are considered.
  • Do you offer elective placement overseas?

    There may be opportunities for Doctor of Medicine (MD) students to complete their Year 3 or Year 4 elective placement at any approved location worldwide.
