Centre for Injury Prevention and Pain

Reducing the burden of musculoskeletal pain and injury

Musculoskeletal conditions (such as back pain and arthritis) account for 3 out of the top 15 conditions with the highest disability in Western Australia.

In Western Australia musculoskeletal conditions are ranked third overall for burden, with only mental health disorders and cancer having a higher burden. Concerningly, musculoskeletal conditions have a substantially higher burden for females, when compared to males.

The University of Notre Dame Australia Centre for Injury Prevention and Pain (CIPP) is improving the lives of Australians by reducing the burden of musculoskeletal pain and injury through high-impact, interdisciplinary research. The CIPP’s multi-disciplinary research and members are internationally recognised experts in biomechanics, injury prevention, pain science, physiotherapy, sports medicine and sport science. The CIPP research spans diverse populations, from elite athletes and emergency service personnel to older adults living with chronic musculoskeletal conditions. By integrating multi-disciplinary expertise CIPP seeks to generate evidence that informs clinical practice, public health policy, and industry decision-making.
