Lithgow Clinical School

Lithgow is a small rural city situated at 900m above sea level on the western edge of the Blue Mountains 150km from Sydney. The new Lithgow campus is located on the grounds of The Lithgow District Hospital, which is a 46 bed integrated facility with a maternity unit, operating theatres, specialist consulting rooms and a full suite of Allied Health Services. Our new university complex provides a state-of-the-art learning environment complete with 120 seat lecture theatre, consulting rooms, tutorials rooms and SimMan training areas, as well as accommodation for rotating students.

The student accommodation is comprised of a six-bedroom home 500m from the hospital, and a self-contained accommodation area in our new building, comprised of four bedrooms, each with ensuite, for visiting students.

Medical students at the Lithgow Clinical School will be immersed in all aspects of Hospital and Community Medicine, including Prison Medicine at the nearby maximum security Lithgow Correctional Centre. Students will be able to explore the multifaceted dimensions of Rural Medicine with excellent and dedicated teachers who have made Rural Medicine their passion as they participate in daily ward rounds, General Practice attachments, Palliative Care, Surgery, Anaesthetics and the Maternity Unit. Students will also have exposure to the mining and grazing industries.

Lithgow has excellent sporting facilities across a wide range of sports as well as hiking, sailing, canyoning and horse riding. There is a local theatre group and all the major churches are represented in the city.

A very warm welcome awaits students who arrive at the School (even though winter temperatures may at time reach minus 6-10 degrees!). We look forward to your company.
