Testimonials

"My experience helping out in the Notre Dame Legal Clinic was invaluable. Not only did it provide me with practical skills that will help me in the workplace, it also gave me a real insight into the legal practice. Getting the chance to sit in with a variety of lawyers during sessions with real clients gave me a first-hand insight into the workplace. It was an eye-opening experience that I feel has enhanced my education. It was a rewarding experience from day one and it felt great giving back to the community. I would highly recommend students to take on this valuable opportunity."

“I truly believe that my time at the University of Notre Dame Fremantle Legal Clinic has been one of my most valuable experiences in my degree. I was introduced to the opportunity through the Law in Context unit during Semester One of 2018 and was excited about the prospect of gaining legal experience via a semester long placement at a Community Legal Centre.  My role within the Notre Dame Legal Clinic involved liaising with potential clients for our monthly legal clinics, conducting a means test in order to ensure that we could assist our prospective clients and experiencing firsthand the interaction between a solicitor and client during the clinic itself. Having the opportunity to converse with the solicitors who attended the clinics was inspiring and provided firsthand experience and insight into an industry which I will hopefully enter. Above all, I found the experience helped me open my eyes to the importance of pro bono legal work and the ability to give back to the community which is widely seen as inaccessible for a large portion of society. The Notre Dame Legal Clinic gave me the opportunity to grow personally whilst also serving the community.”

“My time with the Notre Dame Legal Clinic has been a fantastic opportunity to work with other students within the law school and network with the staff who volunteer their time to the clinic. I was given an opportunity to get an inside perspective on one of the many ways that the legal clinic help the members of our community that would normally have limited access to legal representation.”

“Volunteering at the clinic has allowed me to connect with individuals within the community who have limited access to legal support. This contact has provided me with a greater understanding of the barriers that marginalised people face when seeking legal advice and has motivated me to engage further in social justice activities to work to eradicate such barriers. In a practical sense, my time at the legal clinic enabled me to develop my legal skills. Specifically, I have gained significant experience liaising with clients as well as staff members and fellow volunteers. Volunteering at the clinic provided a clear insight into the daily workings of a legal practice and all that is required to ensure that clients gain the maximum benefit when attending the clinic. Volunteering with the Notre Dame Legal Clinic is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to gain introductory experience in the legal sector.”
