Facilitated by experienced academics from The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Learning and Teaching Office, this nested suite of programs is for those interested in developing their learning and teaching practices to meet the demands of teaching adults in the 21st century. The program has been created so that you can complete and exit with the Graduate Certificate (four courses in total). Additionally, you can build on the Certificate to earn the Graduate Diploma (eight courses in total) or continue your studies at the Master’s level (by coursework). Extend your career today.

    If your passion is teaching higher education and adult education, our Graduate Certificate for Learning and Teaching for Higher Education is the ideal qualification for you.

    The course can be completed in 0.5 years fully online to consider your current work commitments. The program provides rich opportunities to acquire new skills from a scholarly and evidence-based approach to learning and teaching in higher education. This includes the ability to critically evaluate contemporary theories and practices to inform innovative curriculum design and effective student learning, and learn how to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching, learning and assessment practices.

    This program will introduce you to the process of researching your practice and wider learning and teaching phenomena. It is suitable for individuals considering a tertiary teaching career or those already teaching in higher education.

    The award articulates the Graduate Diploma and a Master in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education by coursework. Students can also complete a Graduate Diploma and a Master’s in Health Professional Education.

  • Entry requirements

    Applicants must have a recognised Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

  • Learning outcomes

    Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education graduates will be able to:

    1. Critically evaluate contemporary theories and practices and current trends in learning and teaching in higher education to inform innovative and effective practices
    2. Critically evaluate the higher education literature to generate scholarly and evidence-based practice
    3. Create and evaluate curriculum design, teaching and learning strategies and assessment practices that are inclusive and promote student engagement with complex ideas in their discipline
    4. Apply digital practices designed to enhance self and student digital literacies and to promote student engagement and deep learning; and
    5. Collaborate with colleagues in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning with the aim of continuous improvement of practice.

    With the Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education, you will be prepared to teach in higher education institutions such as TAFE or higher education academies.

  • Scholarships

    Scholarships provide financial support to students while they are completing their studies. There are various scholarships available to prospective and current students, across all study levels and campuses.

    These can be funded by Notre Dame, industry, individuals and non-profit organisations, to provide financial assistance to students to support costs associated with study. This could include buying food, paying rent, transport, and household bills, raising children as single parents, being a single-income household, becoming unemployed or caring for a sick loved one.

    Domestic Fee-Paying
    A domestic fee-paying place is a place at university where the student is responsible for the full cost the program.

    Eligible domestic fee-paying students may apply for the FEE-HELP loan scheme which assists eligible fee-paying students with the payment of all, or part, of their tuition fees, not including additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks. Your FEE-HELP debt will be indexed each year in line with the Consumer Price Index.
