The Graduate Certificate in Sport and Educational Performance provides teachers a thorough introduction to the theory and practice around athlete and student development. This program will appeal to students who aspire to senior coaching or senior management positions in schools or with sporting clubs.

  • Why study this degree?

    The Graduate Certificate in Sport and Educational Performance is designed to meet the needs of professional teachers who wish to undertake further career development. Specifically, the program will support students to develop a comprehensive and ethical knowledge of athlete development and training prescription with the goal to enhance athletic performance. Unique to this program, students will also learn about pastoral care in the school, and how to mentor and coach peers in an educational setting in order to support personal and academic development.

    1. Graduates of this program may choose to enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Sport Coaching and Educational Leadership.

    Students must complete three compulsory courses:

    • Integrated Approaches to Athlete Health and Performance
    • Pastoral Care and the School
    • Ethical Issues in Professional Life

    Students must also complete one elective from the below schedule of courses:

    • Performance Technology and Analysis for Coaches
    • Applications of Strength And Conditioning
    • Mentoring and Coaching Graduate, Early Careers and Established Teachers
    • Leading Pastoral Care in Education

  • Entry requirements

    Academic requirements for this program are outlined below. In addition, to be eligible for admission, all applicants need to satisfy the minimum requirements outlined in the admission requirements. These include those relating to age and English Language Proficiency. We also consider your application more broadly – your non-academic achievements (such as any previous leadership roles, volunteering, work, church and/or community involvement) as well as personal qualities - your aspirations and interests and your capacity to complete your chosen program.

    Specific Program Requirements for Admission

    A student applying for the Graduate Certificate in Sport and Educational Performance must:

    • Hold a Bachelor-Level Qualification in an Education or Related Field or;
    • Hold a Bachelor-Level Qualification in any field and a Postgraduate Qualification in an Education or Related Field
  • Learning Outcomes

    Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Sport and Educational Performance, graduates will be able to:

    1. Implement athlete centered programs to address physical and mental requirements of athletes across a range of sporting contexts
    2. Appraise coaching and leadership strategies, practice and programming for holistic athlete development and lifelong learning
    3. Apply models of pastoral care with an emphasis on curriculum, the individual and community; and
    4. Communicate coaching and educational information effectively with a range of audiences.

    Domestic Fee-Paying
    A domestic fee-paying place is a place at university where the student is responsible for the full cost the program.

    Eligible domestic fee-paying students may apply for the FEE-HELP loan scheme which assists eligible fee-paying students with the payment of all, or part, of their tuition fees, not including additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks. Your FEE-HELP debt will be indexed each year in line with the Consumer Price Index.
