    The Graduate Diploma in Sport Coaching and Educational Leadership has been designed to meet the needs of professional teachers who wish to develop a comprehensive and ethical knowledge of holistic athlete development, training prescription and management with the goal to enhancement athletic performance. The program will develop advanced understandings of multidimensional, evidence based coaching practice with a focus on athlete-centred approaches. Students will be expected to develop and critically apply concepts of pastoral care, strategic management and planning principles in an education setting in order to build and support resilient schools.

    Students must complete five compulsory courses:

    • Integrated Approaches to Athlete Health and Performance
    • Pastoral Care and the School
    • Multidimensional Coaching Practice
    • Strategic Management in Education
    • Ethical Issues in Professional Life

    Students must also complete three electives from the below schedule of courses:

    • Performance Technology and Analysis for Coaches
    • Applications of Strength And Conditioning
    • Professional Practice In High Performance Sport
    • Evidence Based Coaching Practice
    • Building Resilient Teachers and Schools
    • Mentoring and Coaching Graduate, Early Careers and Established Teachers
    • Leading Pastoral Care in Education

    Academic requirements for this program are outlined below. In addition, to be eligible for admission, all applicants need to satisfy the minimum requirements outlined in the admission requirements. These include those relating to age and English Language Proficiency.

    Specific Program Requirements for Admission

    A student applying for the Graduate Diploma in Sport Coaching and Educational Leadership must:

    • Hold a Bachelor-Level Qualification in an Education or Related Field or;
    • Hold a Bachelor-Level Qualification in any field and a Postgraduate Qualification in an Education or Related Field
  • Learning outcomes

    Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma in Sport Coaching and Educational Leadership, graduates will be able to:

    1. Integrate coaching and leadership models, behaviours, and best practice across a range of sporting and educational contexts
    2. Promote socially responsible guidelines addressing a range of organisational, social, community and individual issues that reflect a positive ethical culture for athletes, students, and the wider community
    3. Implement coaching and leadership strategies, practice and programming for holistic athlete centered development and lifelong learning
    4. Apply models of pastoral care with advanced understanding of issues specific to curriculum development, the individual and community
    5. Implement management and leadership models in coaching and educational contexts using highly developed communication skills; and
    6. Formulate scholarly practice which evaluates complex issues in sport, educational leadership, and management.

    A domestic fee-paying place is a place at university where the student is responsible for the full cost the program.
