School of Nursing & Midwifery, Broome Campus
The School of Nursing & Midwifery offers programs that prepare students for varied careers in the diverse healthcare environment. Our undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing has been accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council, leading to registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Similarly, our EN Articulation pathway transitions existing Enrolled Nurses to the status of Registered nurses on the completion of the two year degree.
Our Bachelor of Nursing Broome campus is delivered in a hybrid/blended format, with virtual lectures and tutorials offered online, and campus attendance for skills blocks limited to just once per semester. This mandatory, week-long skills immersion occurs on the Broome Campus, utilising the state-of-the-art lab and classroom facilities. The Broome Campus has stunning grounds, a well-resourced library and shared accommodation options. New students are also required to complete a weeklong intensive prior to commencing the program. This weeklong intensive (known as a ‘Primer week’) provides students with the necessary skills and bridging education to succeed in the Bachelor of Nursing program and is scheduled for the week prior to Orientation week each semester.
Notre Dame nursing programs incorporate the most extensive practical experience of any degree in Western Australia. Placements can be negotiated to occur close to the student’s usual residence, otherwise a variety of clinical settings within the Kimberley region are utilised. Placements occur at the end of the academic teaching period each semester, last four-six weeks, and require full-time attendance across the typical nursing shifts patterns.

Work integrated learning
A special feature of Notre Dame’s Nursing degree is the availability of substantial clinical experience. The Bachelor of Nursing program allows students to develop their skills in an intensive workplace environment. Students log more than 1,000 hours of practicum experience during the course of their degree. Placements take place in public and private hospitals, medical centres, community health centres and voluntary service agencies. As a result, Notre Dame Nursing graduates are highly regarded for their knowledge, critical thinking and clinical competence skills.
