Broome student information

  • What is Enrolled Nurse Primer Week and am I required to attend? 

    Students entering the Enrolled Nurse Articulation Pathway are required to complete a Primer Week prior to their first semester. This is a full time 1 week program designed to ‘bridge the gap’ between the Diploma of Nursing and the first year Bachelor of Nursing program, with full attendance required. This course is designed to prepare students for university studies and runs each semester the week before Orientation Week. This week is a requirement for all Enrolled Nurses entering the Enrolled Nurse Articulation Pathway Program.

  • What does being a ‘Broome Student’ mean?

    Broome campus students come from all over Australia. All the courses (subjects) in the Bachelor of Nursing are conducted virtually, meaning you can log on and participate in class from anywhere. You will need to attend the Broome Campus for one compulsory skills week per semester (except in Semester 6).

  • What are the eligibility criteria for being a Broome student? 

    • Reside in rural or regional Australia. Students must be designated as MM2 – MM7 – Monash Model
    • Enrolled Nurse (Div 2) endorsement with Aphra, and completed your EN course within the last 6 years
    • Agree to attend a mandatory ‘skills week’ in Broome each semester (except Semester 6).
    • Agree to undertake 760 hours of Clinical Practice Placements across the 4 semesters; Stage 3 (160 hours), Stage 4 (200 hours), Stage 5 (240 hours), Stage 6 (160 hours)
  • Where and how do I attend lectures and tutorials?

    All tutorials and lectures are delivered virtually. It is up to the student to monitor and organise their time to attend these online classes. Attendance is recorded, with a participation/engagement rate of 80% or more being required.

    Please note that Broome students enrol in Fremantle class numbers. Classes are delivered in a hybrid/blended format, with virtual lectures and tutorials offered online.

  • When do I attend campus?

    You are only required to attend Broome campus once each semester (except semester 6) for a one-week skills block. Attendance at skills block is mandatory.

  • What is Majarlin, and how does it relate to the Nursing program? 

    The Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health is located on The University of Notre Dame Australia's Broome Campus. We organise placements for allied health and nursing students in Broome and across the Kimberley.

    Undertaking a placement in the Kimberley provides a blend of academic, professional, social and cultural experiences underpinned by a strong theme of inter-professional education. The placement will be a memorable experience that will contribute to both your professional and personal development and will be an asset to your resume.

  • How does Majarlin relate to professional practice?

    Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health provide financial support and clinical facilitation for professional practice undertaken in the Kimberley region.

    Broome students are required to register with Majarlin for each professional practice to be allocated a clinical facilitator.

EN-BN Articulation program

  • What is the EN Articulation Pathway? 

    The EN articulation pathway is a 2-year program for Enrolled Nurses (ENs) to study at the university level and complete a Bachelor of Nursing in order to become a Registered Nurse. This pathway allows ENs to receive advanced standing and enter directly into the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing program.

  • What is “Primer” Week and am I required to attend? 

    The Primer Week is a mandatory week-long course at the beginning of the EN-BN Articulation program for Broome and Fremantle students. Completing the entire Primer Week is necessary for students to receive credit for their EN courses and qualify for Advanced Standing on their transcript. The topics covered during Primer Week include reviewing anatomy and physiology, understanding the differences between TAFE and university, academic writing and referencing, and accessing university support. Primer Week is entirely online, allowing students to complete it from any location.

  • Can I study part-time as an EN-BN student in Broome?

    Yes, we understand that study, work and lifestyle commitments are different for everyone. Part time study options are available.
