School resources

Here at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, our staff are fully committed to supporting you. Below, we have gathered some useful resources but if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to make an appointment with a member of the School of Nursing & Midwifery.

  • Calendars

  • Inherent Requirements

In addition to meeting academic requirements for admission into the Bachelor of Nursing, students must also demonstrate a range of inherent requirements necessary for ensuring the provision of safe, ethical nursing care.

Refer to relevant Inherent Requirements/Fitness for Practice for further information.

  • Professional Practice

Students at the University of Notre Dame, Australia, undertake extensive professional practice in a variety of clinical settings throughout the EN-BN program. This equates to a 4-to-6-week placement twice a year. Placements are full-time and shifts work to cover the am, pm, and night shifts across the seven-day week.

Placements will generally be in the Kimberley area. This provides students with a ‘reality of practice’ to work as a registered nurse in the health care team. The nursing staff in the work area and the university clinical supervisor support students throughout their placement. Visit the SONIA Noticeboard.

    The Professional Practice Team

The primary role of the Professional Practice Team is to place and manage undergraduate nursing students during their professional practice. If you have any questions, please contact Tamara Fairweather. If she is unable to assist you, she will transfer your call to the appropriate person.

Any enquiries about the nursing program should be directed to the UNDA prospective student’s office.

  • Skills block

All nursing programs in Broome require 1 week per semester (except Semester 6) of in-person attendance on campus for compulsory skills blocks.

Students will be required to self-fund the travel, meals and accommodation expenses associated with this. Broome campus offers heavily subsidised accommodation options.

Scholarship options are available to assist with attendance at Skills blocks. Find out more about scholarships.

  • Aboriginal Students and Away from Base (AFB) Funding

Students who are eligible for -ABSTUDY can access Away From Base (AFB) funding to assist with the cost of tuition, travel, accommodation, incidental and meal expenses associated with their Bachelor of Nursing program in Broome. For further information, please speak with an Indigenous Support Officer.

Students are encouraged to access the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support services offered by UNDA and engage with the Indigenous Support officers.

The requirement to live rural or remote (i.e. outside a metropolitan area) and away from base (i.e. outside of Broome) are prerequisites for AFB funding.

Find an Indigenous-specific scholarship using Find a scholarship or learn more about our Indigenous Student Support Officers and services on our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students page.
